Forensic Files

it's going down and i know i'm yelling timber
i'm tryna find food tryna some warmth in December
i'm wearing my tv as a jacket tonight
all the kids are going out but i'm stuck here inside
cause the palms burnt down on Washington
and i check my telephone
and i see you ain't going home alone
and i wanna increase the volume
but i misplaced the damn remote
the kids are ascending
a simple chain of being
but i'm stuck here in these four walls
watching forensic files
and when i open my mouth up i release the hounds
it's something i ain't too proud about
but i just ordered three new dvd's
i think one is a documentary
the home i built ain't falling down til doomsday
and at the foot of my coffin, a 28-inch tv
and i'm relating too much to AJ Soprano
set fire to my car after leaving Hannah
cause it's so tough to be young, white, and male
all my friends are saying
cynicism is so 2007
but i really ain't lying
i'm getting ink done
saying "i, ryan"

i'm a plain-dealing villain, i was birthed in sin
a living version of bastard Edmund
and i keep my students after the bell rings
and i laugh when their phony parents phone me:
"why is my son failing the 13th grade?"
i don't like his taste in music and i think he's lame
well i observe the white lines of the football field
late nights, wee hours til form is solved
Jane, i read your essay
and i, i must say
i don't agree
with how you defame
a film designed
to solely entertain
Annie and i broke up yeah she was pissed
of course i'm wrong but there's certain charm in tryst
like warm nights and the kissing during Schindler's List
with girls i meet from an AIDS walk call list
oh, tweet your shame, post your disapproval
but put the gloves on, be ready for rebuttal

i, ryan have read all the theory
as an undergrad i sorta stopped singing
four by four my foot would tap
to the scenes and clips upon my lap
and i got a sunburn from all the lcd
soundsystem in my car makin my heart seize
but you provide the aloe
and i, i'll take a shower and shave this
beard, for the new year,
it's back to school
and i already bought my pen
well i admit to objectification
but i cant help it i find you good lookin
and i swear ive read the Visual Pleasure
and I aint got no Unknown Pleasures
well go ahead prig, pull my nose
pretend youre so smart
yeah you read all those

Graduation

mom brings out the candles
i talk with ex-girlfriends
i tell my grandpa i'm going somewhere fine
cause i got a pretty good head on these days
but at the same damn time i rock Gucci and Bally
and i can't decide which has more prestige
but i ain't gonna settle in the middle for Louis
tuition's been paid
thanks to a few essays
i let gravity do its job on my cap and gown
i throw out the single ply for a new life
no more hot pockets, mcdonalds, or bagel bites
no more drinkin down at Murph's on a Thursday night
just a good book, my baby, and the glow of a lamplight
Sample: When Harry Met Sally. Dir. Rob Reiner. 1989. Film.
